As we settle into this new way of working, I’d like to offer some hints and tips you may find useful in getting the most out of your home schooling tasks: 

• If possible, try to have a dedicated area to complete your School work. This can be a desk in a bedroom, the dining room table or the end of the kitchen worktop – the actual space doesn’t matter as much as this being the same area which you use to complete all of your work. This will help you to get into the mindset of schoolwork when you are in that space.  

• Keep regular hours. It can be tempting to stay in your PJs until lunchtime, but you are likely to be more productive getting up at your usual school time. Time management is an essential skill for the workplace so start developing those skills now! 

• Be organised. You will be assigned work for each of the subjects you would usually have on that day in School. You may wish to complete the work at the same time you have your lesson, but if that is not possible you need to make sure you allow enough time to complete the work during the day.  

• Stay in touch – with your friends and your teachers. All our teaching staff are working throughout this time, either within School or from home and are happy to answer any questions and provide any guidance you may need.  

• Take breaks! Being in front of a screen for much of your learning can be tiring. Your teaching staff will try to break up screen-based work with other activities, but make sure you take breaks as well.  

• Figure out what works for you. Although the hints and tips above will help many, depending on your circumstances you might not be able to implement them all every day. Don’t be too hard on yourself if everything doesn’t go to plan. It will take some time to figure out how you work best in this new situation.  

I’d like to thank all of you for your hard work and dedication during this time. The work we are seeing coming through has been fantastic and highlights the commitment you have to your studies. We are very proud of all our LHS students and staff.
