Welcome to the start of the Summer Term and to my first blog post for the School.

Going forward, this blog will become a platform for sharing information about the School with our wider community. It will also provide a platform for other members of School staff to provide updates and information on their areas of the School. I will, of course, continue to provide all important updates directly to parents via letter.

I had hoped my first blog post could be sent in better circumstances. Regrettably, the coronavirus pandemic continues to disrupt School life in a way which would never have been predicted just a few months ago.

However, I continue to feel extremely proud of how staff and parents have pulled together to deliver learning remotely in such a professional manner, and how our girls have shown true resilience to what we know have been troubling times for all.

Staff have worked diligently, day and night, to create and deliver materials online. This is in addition to the time many of them have spent in School, supporting the children of key workers, who have continued to attend the School throughout the closure and the School holidays.

We have also been actively supporting our amazing colleagues in the NHS and have donated PPE and other materials to help to do our bit to support our local hospitals in their efforts. Year 6 also wrote some lovely letters to the NHS to show their support, which are now on display at the Leicester Royal Infirmary.

You will have received the Chair of Governor’s letter about the adjustment we have made to fees. We hope that this will provide some support for our families through these financially challenging times.

Staff will continue to provide work throughout the Summer Term and have been working hard through their Easter holidays developing their online delivery skills to ensure your daughters continue to receive the very best online educational experience. We plan to deliver a more interactive programme of teaching and learning during the next few weeks. Clearly, we will continue to review all such programmes on a daily basis.

Year 11 and Year 13 staff are also working hard to gather together information for the examination boards to help them award the grades our GCSE and A-Level pupils have worked so hard for. I know this is a worrying time for these girls especially. However, I have absolute confidence that my staff will make every effort to produce the very best of outcomes for them, which are both realistic and reasonable.

And to end on a positive note, I would like to, once again, thank all of our community for their support during what have been difficult times for us all. I have always felt privileged to be the Headmaster at Leicester High School and feel that sense of pride now, more than ever.

Thank you and stay safe.
