The increase in prominence of the Black Lives Matter movement has thrown a much-needed spotlight on the need for all organisations, including LHS, to ask difficult questions and demand candid answers, regarding what we are doing to address issues around race. The short answer to this question is that we know we can, and must, do more.

During this academic year, we will, therefore, be conducting a full-scale review of the representation of race in all our activities. The review will focus on the curriculum, staff training, and staff and governor recruitment.

Over recent years, we have made positive steps in these areas, but there is, inevitably, more to be done and we must be ready to respond to any challenges the review reveals.

In order to be as transparent as possible, we will be releasing further information about the review, and the actions we have taken as a result of it, at least each half term via this blog.

I would also like to take this opportunity to invite any members of our School community, whether past or present, to meet with me in person to raise any issues or discuss any concerns. My door is open and I feel the valuable input our wider LHS community can bring to the conversation, will help us to create real and positive change.

When it comes to such important issues as equality, we know there will always be work to do, but this must not prevent us from facing up to this challenge and striving to do better.
