Poets and they know it
Britain has had a Poet Laureate since 1668, when King Charles II appointed John Dryden. The holder of the post often writes poetry for royal events and national occasions. As part of our commitment to providing opportunities for students to show excellence and to broaden our cultural experiences, we are proud to introduce to you a new student leadership role at Leicester High School.
The LHS Poet Laureate Award
This new initiative aims to celebrate and encourage poetry writing at LHS. Laureates will write poems in response to school and national events, promote and enter external poetry competitions and devise imaginative ways to encourage other students to read and write poetry.
Our inaugural Poet Laureates for 2022-23 are:
Lower School Laureate: Lucy J
Middle school Laureate: Zahra A
Upper School Laureate: Sabine S
