STEM Challenge 2023
As part of our STEM Enrichment program, Leicester High School have an annual STEM Challenge. This year the challenge was to design a Space Hotel.
The girls entered as teams and had to complete a number of tasks for the final judging.
The tasks included;
- A design and planning phase
- Building a model of their hotel using ‘household’ materials
- Consideration of the engineering challenges of building a hotel in the hostile micro-gravity environment of Space
- Marketing of their hotel
Because this would be a European enterprise, the girls had to market their hotel using a foreign European language. Here you can see one of the entries explaining their hotel to the judges.
Here one team is describing the engineering challenges of a micro-gravity environment.
This is one of the models of a space hotel.
For Year 6-9, the winners were: Big Moon (Lucy J and Hana S) with Runners up Brain Boxes (Fatemah N, Gabrielle D and Jane W).
For Year 10-12, the winners were Justice for Pluto (Raniyah F, Shambavi S and Amana S) with Runners up, and winners of the Design Award, were The Starmen (Rani T, Aa’isha S and Nell L).
Thank you to all entries and a special thank you to Madam Watkiss, Mr Rain and Dr Washington for help with the judging.
