Leicester High School for Girls' Success with MARSBalloon Project
Leicester High School for Girls is proud to announce its achievement in the field of space science, participating in the MARSBalloon project this past June.
Despite several weather-induced setbacks, the school successfully launched three unique experiments that soared to the edge of space, simulating conditions akin to those on the surface of Mars.
The hands-on experiments, created by the pupils, experienced the harsh environment of the Martian surface, offering invaluable data that might one day aid interplanetary exploration. After a successful recovery over the summer, the experiments have returned to the School.
The School’s STEM Club students will now take the reins, analysing and processing the data collected. This opportunity allows them not only to contribute to real-world scientific understanding but also to work towards their Bronze CREST Award. The award introduces students to project work, empowering them to work like genuine scientists, technologists, engineers, or mathematicians.
Mr McMurray, Head of Science, commented, “We are proud of our pupils' contributions to space science and look forward to their progress as they draw conclusions from their experiments.”
Supporting such innovative projects is representative of Leicester High School for Girls' commitment to nurturing future leaders in STEM fields.
