Leicester High School for Girls Supports Breast Cancer Patients
Leicester High School for Girls is pleased to announce an initiative aimed at providing comfort to breast surgery patients.
Year 12 students, along with one Year 9 student, Chemistry teacher, Mrs Greenwood, and Mrs Timms the school librarian, have created discreet and functional Mastectomy Drain Bags to help patients carry surgical drains more comfortably. These bags were created as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The project was initiated by Mrs. Johnson, one of the School’s Lab Technicians and a breast cancer survivor, who shared her idea with Mrs. Timms, the School Librarian. With the generous donation of fabrics by the Assistant Head, Mrs Wagner-Lees the project was set in motion.
Mrs. Timms praised the students' efforts, saying, "It's truly remarkable to see how well the students have done in making these bags, especially considering that some of them had no prior sewing experience. Their dedication and willingness to learn have resulted in a collection of bags that will provide much-needed comfort to breast surgery patients."
Mrs. Johnson personally delivered the Mastectomy Drain Bags to the Chemotherapy Suite at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. These bags will be distributed to patients in need. The nurses were deeply moved by this gesture, and one of them was brought to tears when she read the accompanying postcard. Their appreciation was heartfelt.
