Year 7 Students Explore Plant Adaptations
Year 7 pupils from Leicester High School recently visited the University of Leicester Botanical Gardens to study plant adaptations as part of their ecosystems topic.
During their visit, the students explored the tropic, alpine, and desert glasshouses, examining species adapted to different biomes. They also investigated pond food webs, surveyed woodland plant species and found newts while pond dipping.
After their scientific investigations, the pupils enjoyed a picnic on the lawns of the Botanical Gardens.
Liz Tyler, Teacher of Science, commented, “The trip provided ideal conditions for exploring plant adaptations and broadening their understanding of ecological concepts. It also highlighted the importance of conservation.”
Leicester High School prioritises hands-on learning and field trips to encourage scientific inquiry and a broader understanding of the natural world.
