Sixth Form Taster Event
Leicester High School for Girls recently welcomed prospective Sixth Form students and their parents to its highly anticipated annual Sixth Form Taster Day and Information Evening, offering a firsthand look at the unique academic and co-curricular experience available at Leicester High.
The Taster Day provided an opportunity for current Year 11 girls and students from local Senior Schools to explore life in the Sixth Form. The day kicked off with an engaging collaborative project, as students worked in small groups to propose redesign ideas for the Sixth Form Common Room. With creativity and teamwork on full display, exciting ideas emerged—so watch this space!
Students then participated in various subject taster sessions, giving them insight into the academic transition from GCSEs to A-levels. The day continued with a thrilling self-defence and boxing class led by GNR8 Academy, empowering the girls with practical skills and a burst of adrenaline. The students’ culinary skills were also put to the test in a cookery lesson, where they prepared a delicious spaghetti dish—a perfect addition to any student’s repertoire for cooking on a budget.
The evening session opened its doors to parents, who joined their daughters in the gym for drinks and refreshments. The event featured inspiring speeches from Mr. Whelpdale, Headmaster Alan Ryman, Head of Sixth Form Mark Ryman, and Mrs. Rose. Alumna Connie Davies, now a Veterinary Science student at Nottingham University, gave a heartfelt presentation, sharing fond memories of her time at Leicester High and insights into her ongoing educational journey.
The evening concluded with an interactive Parent, Student, and Teacher panel discussion, providing an in-depth look into the Sixth Form’s academic excellence, extra-curricular activities, and dedicated support systems designed to develop both well-being and academic success for all students.
“Sixth Form at Leicester High is about more than academics; it's about helping each student grow into a confident, capable, and accomplished individual ready to take on the world,” said Mr. Ryman, Head of Sixth Form. “We strive to ensure every student feels supported and empowered to reach her fullest potential.”
Leicester High School for Girls is committed to nurturing young women into confident, independent, and successful individuals prepared for their future studies and beyond.
