Why Study Art and Design?
This highly creative course gives you the confidence and skills to explore a range of themes and develop a questioning and analytical attitude. There is a strong emphasis on the teaching of drawing through the use of a wide range of materials, as well as underpinning research skills.
You will work with a wide range of media applications including:
- Drawing
- Painting
- Sculpture
- Photography
- Printmaking
- Graphics
- Typography
- Textiles
- 3D work
- Illustration
Assessment
You will be assessed on two components:
- Portfolio of Practical Coursework
- Externally Set Assignment
After the GCSE
You could go on to take A-Level Art or A-Level Photography and study a creative subject at University.
There are many career opportunities within creative industries, which is one of the largest employment areas in the UK. Ultimately, you may wish to go on to a career in such fields as design, architecture, advertising, marketing, publishing, media, or education.
The study of Art will provide you with many transferable skills such as research skills, the ability to work independently, and the aptitude to share ideas visually.
