Beyond the Curriculum
We believe in the importance of extending learning beyond the classroom, providing pupils with a rich and diverse range of experiences. To support this, our girls engage in activities that go beyond the standard curriculum, including clubs and activities, leadership opportunities, and trips and visits.
Juniors
Clubs, Activities, and Leadership Opportunities
We offer a wide range of clubs and activities, giving every pupil the chance to explore new interests, develop hobbies, and enjoy unique learning experiences. Clubs run at lunchtime or after school and include options such as Athletics, Art, Ballet, Choir, Tae Kwon Do, and Gardening, led by school staff or specialist coaches.
Leadership opportunities begin in EYFS, with girls taking on small classroom tasks to build confidence and responsibility. As they progress, roles expand to include House Captains, Sports Captains, and School Council Representatives. By Year 5, every girl takes on an individual role, such as Librarian, Play Leader, or Office Assistant, helping them develop teamwork and resilience.
Trips and Residentials
To enrich learning, every Cornerstones Curriculum project starts with a memorable experience, either through a special school activity or an exciting trip. Highlights include visits to Twycross Zoo, Warwick Castle, and Sudbury Hall, as well as fieldwork adventures along the River Sence.
Residential trips begin with a Year 3 School Sleepover and progress to multi-day experiences in Years 4 and 5, designed to foster independence and teamwork. These trips, alongside our extra-curricular programme, ensure every girl has opportunities to grow, discover, and create lasting memories.
Early Years
Activities and Themed Days
In EYFS, our youngest girls are fully immersed in school life. They enjoy PE lessons using school equipment, attend assemblies, receive music lessons, and take part in school performances. Reception Class also benefits from weekly ballet lessons with Mrs. Loomes of the Karen Loomes Dance Academy, offering an introduction to ballet and the chance to take their first exam.
We celebrate special days with themed activities like St George’s Day, Diwali, Chinese New Year, and Seaside Day, providing fun and educational alternatives to trips.
Forest School in the Spinney
Each week, EYFS girls explore the Spinney, our woodland area, developing resilience, independence, and teamwork through outdoor learning. Activities include tree climbing, den building, art from nature, and enjoying hot chocolate—all weather-proofed with our waterproof suits and wellies!
Trips and Visits
Cornerstones Curriculum projects begin with memorable experiences to enrich learning. Recent trips have included Rockingham Castle for Foundation Class and West Lodge Farm for Reception, ensuring hands-on, engaging experiences that inspire young minds.
