Years studied: Years 6 – 9. Art is an option at GCSE and A Level. Photography is also an option at A Level.
Subject overview
The study of Art is enjoyable and rewarding and encourages skills including imagination, sensitivity, conceptual thinking and analysis. A good art education goes beyond learning artistic skills. Art offers you the opportunity to achieve a balance between intellectual and emotional capabilities.
You will develop your confidence, alongside your practical skills in drawing, painting and making. The critical and contextual study of Art and Design, from contemporary as well as other times and cultures, will lead to a fuller understanding of its part in the history of human development.
We provide a well-equipped, modern art studio with up-to-date equipment and resources, providing you with the opportunity to create art using a wide variety of materials, techniques and processes.

There are many career opportunities within the creative industry, one of the largest employers in the UK and there are a number of degree courses in any number of specialities from Graphic Design to Arts Management. Ultimately you may wish to start a career in design, architecture, advertising, publishing, media or education.
