Celebrating British Science Week

Last week, Leicester High School for Girls marked British Science Week with an exciting range of activities designed to inspire curiosity and creativity.
This year’s theme, ‘Adapt and Change,’ was explored through engaging lessons, competitions, and hands-on experiments. At Wednesday lunchtime, pupils enjoyed a slime-making session, where they experimented with materials to understand changes in states of matter. Throughout the week, different faculties incorporated the theme into lessons, helping students see the impact of adaptation across subjects.
Two competitions encouraged students to apply their creativity and scientific thinking. The British Science Week Poster Competition challenged pupils to design posters reflecting the theme of ‘Adapt and Change,’ showcasing their understanding of evolution, sustainability, and innovation. Meanwhile, in the Creative Science Competition, teams of four gathered recycled materials to construct DNA models, reinforcing their knowledge of genetics and environmental responsibility.
British Science Week was a fantastic opportunity for pupils to explore scientific concepts in new and interactive ways, demonstrating the school’s commitment to fostering a love for STEM.
