Celebrating 25 Years of Treasured Decorations
In 2000, Junior School girls at Leicester High School for Girls received bespoke Christmas decorations to celebrate the new millennium.
In 1999, former teacher Mrs Pauline Wilson-Clark started an appeal for Junior Department pupils at Leicester High School for Girls to donate a Christmas tree decoration to mark the exciting start of a new millennium. These individual decorations, in silver, glass and white, have become a cherished tradition. Twenty-five years later, they are still lovingly hung on the School’s Christmas trees by current pupils, together with decorations donated by current pupils. Each decoration is tagged with the name of the former student who originally donated it. Alumnae such as Radhika Patel, Nafisah Bhatty, Alicia Buchanan, Hannah Bristow, Samantha Hamilton-Welsh, Kiranjit Kareer, Ramanpreet Rai and teacher Mrs Knight are amongst the many whose names adorn this enduring display.
Alan Whelpdale, Headmaster, shares his thoughts on the tradition:
“Each year, as we decorate the tree, it’s wonderful to feel this ongoing connection with our alumnae. It’s a special reminder of the girls who’ve been part of our community.”
The School warmly invites alumnae to reconnect and share their stories. Whether pursuing careers worldwide, or continuing their education, the Christmas Tree serves as a meaningful touchstone in their journeys.
If you recognise your name on the tree or know one of these remarkable individuals, Leicester High School for Girls would love to hear from you. Let us celebrate not just 25 years of this tradition, but also the achievements and memories of the girls who have been part of it. Please contact marketing@leicesterhigh.co.uk to share your story
