Facing Exams with Confidence: A Note from the Assistant Head, Constanze Wagner-Lees

As exam season approaches, the energy at school is shifting — revision timetables are up, highlighters are out, and our girls are gearing up to tackle the challenges ahead.
However, while exams are important milestones, they are just one part of a much bigger picture.
At Leicester High School, we believe that learning how to prepare, manage pressure, and take care of yourself during this time is just as crucial as the exams themselves. That is why we have been working with our Senior School students to explore effective revision techniques. Below are some tips for you as a family, which I hope you will find useful:
Create a Routine That Works
Encourage your daughter to build a revision timetable that includes regular study, healthy meals, short breaks, and time to relax. Prepare for the next day by looking at the exam timetable together. Your daughter’s school bag should be packed accordingly the night before.
Sleep and Rest Are Essential
While it can be tempting to stay up late revising, it is proven to be of very little gain as a tired brain cannot absorb or retain information well. A good night’s sleep is one of the best revision tools out there.
Don’t Forget to Take Breaks
Make sure there is still time for friends, fresh air, hobbies and downtime.
A calm mind is a more focused mind.
Talk to Us
If your daughter feels unsure or wants to clarify anything, we are here to help. Her Form Tutors and subject teachers want her to succeed and are always happy to provide support, reassurance, or guidance.
Trust the Process
Support your daughter in focusing on the day-to-day revision. Failure is a natural part of (school) life and the best indicator for next steps for improvement.
