Returning to School this year with masks and one-way systems has been the most bizarre start of a new term I've ever experienced! However, LHS, as a community, has handled the new start maturely and safely. The Prefect Team and I have a new challenge this year because of the COVID-19 restrictions in place, but we’re continually thinking of new and innovative ways to raise money and keep the bond between girls strong.
Although we weren’t in School for the Summer term, we still wanted to get involved as much as possible. So, we launched a picture competition for all years in which girls submitted photographs for different categories. We have had some amazing entries from recreating album covers, to famous paintings, childhood photos and tasty dishes which have been made in lockdown! We’re very excited to decide and reveal the winners after half-term.
Each Form Group has decorated a Harvest box and filled it with essential items for Women’s Aid. We decided to have every box based on the theme of “countries around the world,” and it was a very successful Harvest, with each form being extremely generous and donating several items of food, whilst also designing exciting boxes. I was personally very impressed by the form group 6M who filled and decorated five boxes and two bags! Women’s Aid tweeted us after the event to say how grateful they were for the overwhelming amounts of food. The Prefect Team and I feel privileged to be able to help such a fantastic organisation in such unprecedented times.
It has also been lovely this term to have welcomed so many potential new girls to the School and showed them around. Unfortunately, we have not been able to have our annual Open Day this year, however, it has been fun preparing videos for the virtual tour which is now available to be seen. In the meantime, the Sixth Formers have all enjoyed telling the girls who are hoping to join the School next year, about the different facilities and opportunities we have here at LHS.
As the half-term approaches, we have “Wear It Pink” to look forward to in which all proceeds will be going towards Breast Cancer Now. Also, the Prefect Team are planning more exciting activities for the younger years to take part in next half-term. Girls should look out for posters and videos about “Penny-Wars,” and more house competitions we have coming up!
