Why Study Drama?

In this course, you will have the opportunity to participate in and interpret your own and others' drama. You will investigate the forms, styles, and contexts of drama and will learn to work collaboratively to develop ideas, express feelings, experiment with technical elements and reflect on your own and others’ performances. By studying drama you will learn more about the subject and its contribution to social and cultural commentary and will come to appreciate that drama, whether intended for audiences or not, provides significant opportunities for expressing cultural and personal identity.

• How to plan by selecting and interpreting appropriate genres, styles and conventions
• How to develop critical skills, through evaluation, analysis and reflection

 

Coursework

Unit 1: Devising Theatre

You will participate in the creation, development and performance of a piece of devised theatre based on either the work of a theatre practitioner or a genre in response to a stimulus set by WJEC. You will complete a written evaluation of the devised performance under formal supervision. You will be assessed on either acting or design You will work in groups of between two and five performers.

Unit 2: Performing Theatre

You will participate in a performance based on two 10 minute extracts from a performance text of your own choice. Learners will be assessed on either acting or design. Learners work in groups of between two and four performers.

Unit 3: Interpreting Theatre

Section A: Set Text A series of questions on one set text explored as an actor, designer and director from a choice of five.  

Section B: Live Theatre Review - One question, from a choice of two, requiring analysis and evaluation of one live theatre production seen during the course.
