Leicester High School for Girls Public Speaking Competition 2025

Leicester High School for Girls recently held its highly anticipated Public Speaking Competition 2024, a cornerstone event in the school calendar that highlights the confidence, critical thinking, and eloquence of its students.

The competition saw pupils from across the year groups take to the stage to debate and deliver powerful speeches on thought-provoking topics, including Why VAT Shouldn’t Be Imposed on School Fees, How Are the Lives of Women Impacted by Conflict?, and Does the Prison System Create Better Human Beings?

The Best Speaker award was won by Zahra, whose compelling speech on Should We Look to the Stars Whilst the Earth Is Still in Crisis? captivated the audience. Her ability to command attention through exceptional tonality, eye contact, and speech patterns made her a standout performer.

Judging the competition were Assistant Head, Constanze Wagner-Lees, and Head of Drama, Mrs Rose, both of whom commended the students for their confidence and the depth of their arguments.

The event was attended by parents, who were impressed by the students' ability to present well-researched arguments with confidence and clarity. Their support added to the lively atmosphere, reinforcing the school's strong emphasis on developing public speaking skills.

Public speaking is an integral part of Leicester High School for Girls, equipping students with the skills to articulate their ideas, debate key issues, and engage in meaningful discourse.
