Year 11 Geography Fieldwork Adventure

Year 11 Geography students from Leicester High School for Girls have been enjoying a field trip to the Jurassic Coast, bringing their classroom studies to life with hands-on learning.
The trip has provided the perfect opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of key geographical processes, including coastal erosion, deposition, and landform formation. Students visited the spectacular Lulworth Cove, where they sketched the famous landform under clear blue skies, taking in the stunning scenery while applying their knowledge of geology and coastal dynamics.
The students also headed to Man O’ War Bay, where they conducted beach surveys and data collection as part of their coastal fieldwork. Working in groups, they measured beach profiles, analysed sediment size, and explored the impact of longshore drift and wave processes on the coastline.
Speaking about the trip, one student said: "It’s amazing to actually see the landscapes we’ve been learning about in class and to carry out real fieldwork in such a beautiful setting."
With perfect weather and breathtaking coastal views, the field trip has been both an educational and memorable experience for the students. It has provided them with valuable practical skills and a greater appreciation of the dynamic processes shaping the UK’s coastline.
